What is Fractional CO₂ Laser Skin Resurfacing or the Non-Surgical Facelift?
Fractional CO2 laser skin resurfacing (or non-surgical facelift) is the latest non-surgical laser technology used in skin rejuvenation. At present it is the “gold standard” and “treatment of choice” for wrinkle reduction, skin pores, sun-damage, scars (including acne scars), fine lines, uneven pigmentation, and loose skin. It is performed mainly on the face, neck, chest and hands. The video below demonstrates and explains the laser procedure.
How does Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing work?
Fractional CO2 laser skin resurfacing uses laser micro beams to instantly evaporate columns of treated skin. The surrounding unaffected promotes rapid recovery and short downtime. During the following weeks the laser heated sub-epidermal tissues produce new collagen. New ablative fractional CO2 lasers (area 4 above) have the advantage of being more effective, safer, with less sides effects then older technologies (1, 2 and 3). The overall end result of the treatment is a restoration of newer, younger looking skin, improvement in skin texture, skin elasticity and general skin tightening.

Where and how is the treatment performed?
The procedure is preformed in our private practice facility at the Foothills Professional Building in Calgary. It is done personally by Dr. Richard Kowalewski and his assistant. It takes approximately 30 minutes, but please allow for one hour for full appointment. Prior to the treatment, topical anesthesia is applied on the face, and a light sedation administered for your comfort. The treatment is not painful, but you may experience a little discomfort at times. Driving is not permitted after the treatment. You will need to arrange your own transportation, or we will drive you home. What to expect during and after the procedure? Each treatment is individualized depending on our assessment and your personal desired effects. Depending on treatment intensity, down-time may vary between 2 to 5 days. At that time your face will be slightly red and gently swollen. The rejuvenation process of the skin will start a few days after treatment, while collagen growth and the skin tightening process will continue for several weeks.
