Treatment for excessive sweating
REDUCING EXCESSIVE SWEATING
Botox® is becoming a popular and effective way to reduce sweat gland activity, where topical medicines do not work well enough. The medical name given to excessive sweating is hyperhidrosis, and it is a common medical problem affecting up to 3% of the population.
What areas are treated?
Botox® has been proven to work effectively in the armpit area. Other commonly effected areas are palms, feet and the forehead.
How long does treatment last?
Effects are long-lasting, typically extending from 7 -12 months. It can take a few days or more to work, but the results are dramatic. On average, there is over 80% decrease of sweat production.
How does it work?
In the treated areas, Botox temporarily blocks the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands.
Where does the sweat go?
The sweat doesn’t go anywhere or get backed up, but it simply is not produced in the targeted areas. The rest of your body is free to produce moisture normally.
What causes excessive sweating?
Causes of excessive sweating are unknown. Sweating is controlled by our brain and likely the glands are over stimulated in some way.
